In 1995 I wrote the first version of the book "2nd referee in volleyball", in Swedish.
The need for material for primarily higher level referee courses seemed obvious, so I
gathered the knowledge, experiences and ideas that we used in Sweden and added
examples, questions and subjects to discuss.
In the year 2000, during a meeting at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne (SUI), I had the
pleasure of handing over a book to Dr. Acosta, who thanked me and encouraged me to
make an English version of the book.
So I made an English version in 2001 which I gave away some copies of to members of
the CEV Refereeing Commission and participants in the CEV Refereeing seminar that year
in Vilvoorde (BEL). Due to interest for the book and it's topic, I was invited to
the CEV Refereeing seminar in Montreux (SUI) 2002, to conduct the main part of the meeting,
which was about 2nd refereeing. All participants were supplied with my book by the CEV
and the seminar included both a theoretical part, mainly following the book, practical sessions
observing matches in Montreux Volley Masters International tournament and
discussions and evaluations afterwards.
In January 2003 I supplied copies of the book to the members of the FIVB Refereeing
and Rules of the Game commissions, resulting in the book being approved and now
included in all FIVB International refereeing candidate courses.
The book was also focused during 2005 CEV Referee Seminar in Perugia (ITA),
where I lectured about collaboration and player's positions. Presently the book is
available in ten languages, and some more are on the way.
